About

Drunkey Monkey began many years ago as a doodle...an unfortunate doodle of my late fiancé, Steve, who had an alcohol problem, battled depression, and eventually succumbed to his disease, finding freedom and peace in suicide.

In the months following my loss, dealing with both grief and guilt, I went out a lot...and yes, I drank.

I also found moments to laugh...moments when I might remember some night shooting pool with Steve and his drunken dancing around the table as I tried to shoot my shot. I began to draw Drunkey Monkey again. But this time, he represented the casual drunks...you know, the guy at the bar on a Friday night who manages to pee on the dance floor that one night that he let his drinking get away from him. Or the mother of two who goes out with friends and gets a little "hammered" on those Cosmos. Or the college student, "half in the bag" and stumbling around 7-11 looking for a late night snack.

These cartoons have also given back to me my passion for art, which was mostly abandoned in 1998 when I took a job at a print shop after college (stupid health insurance). Over the years, I learned to be a print and web designer, I got my MBA, I took a position with a great advertising/marketing/communications agency. I have been creative.

But now it is time: To draw again. To paint again. To create again! For me.

This site presents some of my computer illustrations, paintings, drawings, and custom tee-shirt designs. The work that excites me. And I hope, in my new found desire to become a prolific, eccentric artiste, that more work will be shown here soon. So keep coming back and checking out the site for some of my random writing as well as new creations.

PS though I can laugh at Drunkey Monkey, an innocent, though maybe taboo, cartoon, I take alcoholism and binge drinking very seriously. And I encourage anyone who cares to get "tanked," "hammered," "smashed," or "trashed" to find a designated driver. And if alcohol is a more serious problem, please seek help.
